Mongolia’s first automated food-waste-to-fertilizer plant, selected under the National Green Lab initiative and presented at UNCCD COP17.
The plant takes food waste from Oyu Tolgoi and Khanbogd — material that would otherwise go to landfill in the Gobi — and converts it into roughly 794 tonnes of organic fertilizer a year, cutting waste volume by about 90%.
The value is in the template: a working circular-economy unit sized to a Gobi settlement, which can be replicated at other mine-adjacent towns facing the same waste and soil problems.
